Extending over five buildings and set in attractive gardens, it was built for Prince Mohammed Ali Tewfik, the uncle of King Farouk whose hunting lodge is in the grounds. The architecture combines European Art Nouveau with traditional Islamic styles. Ceramic tile work comes from Katahya-trained ceramicist David Ohannessian and there is a large collection of artworks and medieval manuscripts.
