Reading list | Grand Bazaar

Everything the heart desires can be found in this ancient, hectic maze. With more than 3,000 shops in 61 covered streets, the Grand Bazaar (Kapalıçarşı) is like a medieval shopping mall, and one of the most animated and colourful parts of the city. It dates from 1455, just after the Ottoman conquest of the city, when a textile market (bedestan) was established here.
