Roger Williams (1947–2019)

Everyone at Cornucopia was deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Roger Williams, a Cornucopia editor since the early days of the magazine. An obituary posted by London Historians summed him up perfectly as ‘marvellous company kindness personified’. A prolific author and professional journalist for most of his career, Roger was born in Wimbledon and based in London. His numerous books included The Fisherman of Halicarnassus, a pocket book about Cevat Şakir Kabaağaçlı, “the man who made Bodrum famous”. His fiction included Lunch With Elizabeth David and Burning Barcelona, and his books on London include Father Thames, The Temples of London, London’s Lost Global Giant: In Search of the East India Company, Whitebait and the Thames Fisheries and A Year of Turner and the Thames. He was also the author of All the Bristol Hotels in the World.
