Delphi, Arcadia, Sparta… Although there are more ancient Greek sites in Anatolia than there are in Greece, it is Greece that is the first stop in the discovery of the classical world, from the art of the Cyclades and Agamemnon’s Mycenae to the Pericles’ Athens. The museums in the city are spectacular, and they include collections of Byzantine art, while the most extraordinary monastery complex is to be found at Mount Athos, fully explored in Cornucopia 15. Independence from Turkey was won gradually between 1832 and 1947. Thessalonika was still under Ottoman rule when Mustafa Kemal Ataturk was born there in 1881.
