Karakaya creates sculptures that represent the desolation and gloom of modern cities, using a thousand-year-old casting technique to push the boundaries of sculpture. His recent works reference Glenn Albrecht’s concept of ‘Solastalgia’, depicting dystopian urban life as an alienating and imprisoning place. Inspired by pandemic-induced desolation, his sculptures prophesy a dark future and create a sense of unreality and uncanniness.
