MONDAY, OCTOBER 12
Barbershop Istanbul & UKEkoret Pirum
The 20 singers of the UKEkoret Pirum men’s chorus from Trondheim, Norway join forces with Barbershop Istanbul (Turkey’s first-ever barber shop quartet) for a concert of romantic ballads, comic folk songs and pieces from the traditional men’s chorus repertoire, conducted by Kaspar Stai Skesol of UKEkoret Pirum. The barbershop quartet tradition has its roots in North European a cappella (i.e., unaccompanied) music, its main feature being close harmonies in which the upper three voices usually remain within an octave of one another.
