This exhibition presents an exploration of Jochen Proehl’s relationship with the sea. Captured with camera obscure – a sealed box with a tiny pinhole through which an image is projected onto light-sensitive material –, the photographs are not of specific places but about lived experiences. The name, Pontus, is the ancient personification of the sea in Greek mythology.
The German multimedia artist grew up in Istanbul. After completing his studies in Germany, Proehl returned to the city of his youth where works with photography and painting.
