In this concert of the shared traditional music of the Turkish and Greek peoples at the Kınalıada Christos Greek Orthodox Monastery, Çağlar Fidan (vocals, kanun and tambourine) and Ezgi Köker (vocals and oud) will be joined by the ‘Nikoteini’ duo, consisting of Asineth Fotini Kokkala (kanun, cello and vocals) and Nikos Papageorgiou (lute, tambur and vocals). They will play a selection of pieces by Turkish and Greek composers, as well as traditional songs from various Greek islands such as Lesbos, Santorini and Crete.
The kanun is a Middle-Eastern zither, while the tambur is a Turkish stringed instrument with a rounded body and a long neck that can be played with either a plectrum or a bow.
