Founded in 1986 by Besi Cecan, this veteran art gallery in the neighbourhood which had the first commercial art presence in the city has represented and still represents some of Turkey’s most established artists.
The gallery’s roster of artists includes the late painter Hakkı Anlı (1906–1991), the late still-life and landscape painter Adnan Varınca (1918–2014), the Kirgova-born abstract painter Ömer Kaleşi who studied under Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, the painter and musician Hüseyin Ertunç, the Sivas-born sculptor Abdulkadir Öztürk, the painter Nur Özalp who creates textured canvases using various materials, the painter and photographer Talat Enlil, and from elsewhere, the renowned Greek painter Alecos Fassiano, who reinterprets Greek mythology on his canvases.
The gallery mostly showcases solo and thematic exhibitions mainly focusing on painting and sculpture, with occasional retrospective photography exhibitions by the late Gokşin Sipahioğlu, the famous photojournalist and founder of the Sipa Press agency. Six or seven exhibitions are staged each season, including one group exhibition of international artists.
