Sipping a tea in one of the popular cafés in the square surrounding the mosque, underneath the acacia trees, is a very pleasant way to spend the afternoon.
The original mosque was built in the 15th century by Firuz Ağa, the head treasurer of Sultan Beyazıt II. After being ravaged by several fires in the 19th century, it was rebuilt during the Tanzimat era and its style is characteristic of that.
