The merciless plunderers of the 4th Crusade came ashore at what was then San Stefano, the southernmost point of European Istanbul. But today's marina is a peaceful place.The lighthouse was built by the French during their residency in the Crimean War, and among a few survibving Art Nouveau villas is one belonging to the Simeonoglou family where the Treaty of San Stefano, signalling the end of the Russo-Turkish war, was signed in 1878. Istanbul's main airport is in Yesilköy and nearby is the Istanbul Aviation Museum.
