The 2nd Ceren Necipoğlu Istanbul International Harp Festival concludes at the Atatürk Cultural Centre. The Festival’s Closing Gala sees the winners of the competitions in two age categories receive their awards, and a selection of pieces from the competition repertoire will be performed by young harpists, followed by a performance by the Arpanatolia ensemble, which revives the ancient musical traditions of Anatolia – something for which the late Ceren Necipoğlu had a good deal of enthusiasm. The ensemble features harpist Çağatay Akyol, principal harpist of the Presidential Symphony Orchestra; Ferhat Erdem, who plays the sipsi and the kaval (two traditional Anatolian wind instruments); and Cemal Özkızıltaş, who performs on authentic percussion instruments.
