Istanbul Photographers’ Gallery

Tel Sokak 8/2, Beyoğlu (near Taksim), İstanbul

Visiting Hours: everyday (except on Sundays & Mondays) from 11.30 to 19.00

An exceptional photography gallery in a backstreet full of bars between Sıraselviler Caddesi and İstiklal Caddesi. It is dedicated, as its mission statements says, to ‘various disciplines of photography including documentary, classical, conceptual and experimental’. Besides its mission, the İstanbul Fotoğraf Galerisi, to give it its Turkish name, actually takes the trouble to tell you where it is, ‘400 m (5 minute’s walk) to Taksim Square’ and to Galatasaray Meydanı. Walking down from Taksim, ‘take the third street on the left (Büyük Parmakkapı Sokak). Turn right at the end of the street. We are in the 4th building on the right.’ This may seem an obvious thing to do, but very few people bother. You can’t miss it, and judging by its track record of stunning exhibitions, Limited, you oughtn’t to either.
