Botanica: Plants of Anatolia

Exhibition at the Erimtan Archaeology and Arts Museum, Ankara

September 26, 2026 – January 10, 2027

The Erimtan Archaeology and Arts Museum is hosting BOTANICA: Plants of Anatolia, an exhibition presented in collaboration with the Botanical Artists Committee (BIRET) of the Flora Research Association. Bringing together works in the field of scientific botanical illustration, this exhibition explores the rich diversity of Anatolia’s plant life through the shared language of art and science.

BOTANICA: Plants of Anatolia looks at plants not only as objects of scientific research, but also as living beings that have shaped our shared cultural memory, everyday lives and artistic traditions. Through botanical illustrations of the plants that are found across Türkiye’s diverse landscapes, the exhibition invites visitors to reflect on the relationship between observation, documentation and artistic expression. The works on display tell the story of the careful observation, comparison and research that is required to accurately depict a plant.

Alongside the illustrations, the exhibition features herbarium specimens, historical documents, rare books and other archival materials. Bringing together works by botanists and botanical artists from the past to the present, it also highlights the important role of botanical illustration in the production and preservation of scientific knowledge.

The exhibition features 71 works by 40 artists working in the field of botanical illustration in Türkiye. Created using a variety of illustration techniques, these works accurately capture distinctive features such as leaves, flowers, fruits and seeds, transforming the diversity of the natural world into a compelling visual language.

BOTANICA: Plants of Anatolia, which forms part of the Erimtan Archaeology and Arts Museum’s exhibition programme, opens up a dialogue between archaeology, art and different disciplines; it also contributes to the Flora Research Association and BIRET’s aim of introducing botanical illustration to a wider audience.

The exhibition programme will also include workshops for children and adults, a series of talks, and botanical exploration walks that show participants different ways of discovering and engaging with the world of plants.

BOTANICA: Plants of Anatolia can be visited at the Erimtan Archaeology and Arts Museum from 26 September 2026 to 10 January 2027.
