The Balık Pazarı (Fish Market) is just a fish market. Sure you can buy fish there, but the streets of the Balık Pazarı are rather more famous for its good quality food shops and restaurants and meyhanes serving – you guessed it – fish. One of the streets, Nevizade Sokak is choc-a-block with popular watering holes.

Some notable restaurants include the venerable Krependek Imroz, the classy meyhane Degustasyon and the granddaddy of ocakbaşıs, Pala Ocakbaşı. Good shops include the pickle masters Petek Turşuları and sweets purveyors Üç Yıldız Şekerleme, which sells homemade jams from large steel jars.
