Christopher Wren’s 1684 galleried church in the heart of London serves as both Anglican church and concert venue. The conductor, composer and music historian Emre Aracı and the pianist AyşeDeniz Gökçin have been among the leading Turkish names to perform here.
Tony Barrell describes how in April 2013 he watched Gökçin play her Pink Floyd-inspired fantasia ‘caressing and attacking the ivories before an enraptured audience. There were frequent murmurs of recognition as those well-loved rock tunes emerged from cascades of luscious Lisztiness.’ The acoustics were ‘heavenly’.
