Book Description

Sarkıs Zabunyan (always known simply as Sarkıs) was born in Istanbul in 1938 and moved to Paris in 1964. But he likes to interfere with time – don’t we all? – so the title of this important monograph is no misprint. Now primarily a conceptual artist, Sarkis won the painting prize at the Biennale de Paris in 1967, but he has a loyal following in Turkey, where his installations have been regularly exhibited over the years in Istanbul and other major cities. His real milestone in Turkish art is considered to be his 1986 Çaylak Street exhibition at the Maçka Art Gallery in Istanbul.

The cover image shows Scorched Crate, exhibited at Istanbul’s Dirimart Gallery in 2020.
