Bebek Badem Ezmesi

Cevdet Paşa Caddesi No 53C, Bebek, Istanbul

By bus or taxi. At the lower end of Bebek’s narrow high street.

Legendary marzipan (badem ezmesi) by Sevim Işgüder. Turkey is almond-country, and this is deliciously mild confection in which the almond is king. They also make an almost an intoxicating pistachio confection. The shop stays open till late. We would call it quite simply the best marzipan in the world – it is the freshness that makes it so wonderful, and unbearably more-ish. The ideal dinner party or weekend house present, and very properly not inexpensive. Buy a mixture of marzipan and pistachio for those who, unaccountably, dislike marzipan.
