ArtSümer was founded in 2005 by Aslı Sümer. The gallery focuses on representing cutting-edge contemporary art from Turkey and is committed to showcasing substantive young art in both local and international markets.
The gallery’s programme consists of seven to nine group and solo exhibitions, as well as participation in important local and international art fairs and events, including Contemporary Istanbul, Scope Miami, Scope Basel, Art Brussels, Vienna Fair and Art Market Budapest.
The gallery mostly works with artists in the early stages of their careers in such disciplines as painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, video and new media. Some notable names include the Egyptian artist Basim Magdy, who presented two conceptual works at the 2013 Istanbul Biennial; the Turkish artist Merve Çanakçı, who mostly works with fabric; Gözde Ilkin, who works with embroidery; the painter Onur Gülfidan; the installation artist Serra Behar; the German-born sculptor Erdal Duman; the photographer Uygur Yılmaz and the rising star Merve Üstünalp.
