Recently relocated from a space in Cihangir to a new space on Mumhane Caddesi in Karaköy, Mixer is progressive in its thinking. The idea is to make art accessible for everyone by supporting sustainable art production, something that has perhaps been missing in Istanbul’s flourishing art scene.

Regular solo and group exhibitions by emerging artists from Turkey and beyond are staged, with the space lending itself particularly well to installation works. ArtLab is an initiative offering the chance for audiences to be privy to the artists’ usually unseen production process.

Founded by Hamit Hamutcu in November 2012, Mixer does not have a fixed roster of artists, as this goes against its aim to make art accessible to everyone. Instead, the gallery works with over 100 emerging artists from Turkey and beyond, spanning every discipline, with an ‘Open Studio’ space where artists’ works are displayed on a rotational basis, allowing collectors a frequently changing diverse choice of artworks. In addition to the gallery, there is also a café and a small shop selling design objects.
