Turkey's eastern neighbour in the south Caucusus is a mountainous land with a rich biodiversity. The Karabakh horse from the mountain-steppes is endemic to Azerbaijan, and the national symbol. Petroglyphs in Gobustan National Park date from the 10th millennium BC and indicate a thriving culture. Its musical tradition of mugham, poetry with musical interludes, has been declared a a Masterpiece of the Oral by Unesco, and its carpets proclaimed a Masterpiece of Intangible Heritage. The capital, the walled city of Baku on the Caspian Sea, has many mansions built with oil money, described by Brigid Keenan in Oil's Boom and Bust  in Cornucopia 45
