SALT Beyoğlu

İstiklâl Caddesi No. 136, Beyoğlu

Closed indefinitely

The six-storey 19th-century building on İstiklal Caddesi that houses SALT Beyoğlu has been shuttered since December 2015. While the closing of the museum, one of the major contemporary art spaces in the centre of Istanbul, is said to be temporary, it is unclear when it will reopen.

SALT, which grew out of Platform Garanti, a pioneering art space in Istanbul, continues to offer programming at its other Istanbul venue, SALT Galata. Yet SALT’s absence is felt acutely on İstiklal, which has become more like a shopping centre and less like an arts district in recent years.
