Tay Mum

Ihlamur Yolu No 84/A, Teşvikiye, Istanbul

A bit tricky by public transport. A ten-minute stroll down hill from the Teşvikiye Mosque, or five minutes up hill from the Ihlamur Kasrı. Parking is not usually a problem.

The best and most inventive candle shop in the city, founded in 1975. Today, Tay Mum produces its candles in a 1300 sq m premises, manufacturing for Turkey and other markets, and stocks its wares in two retail shops.

Tay Mum’s products are handmade, meticulously designed and are based on the company’s own designs which pay homage to Turkey’s historic and cultural riches. One of the lines is inspired by Anatolian civilisations, another by Ottoman and Seljuk designs and another by Istanbul. Worth a look even if you don’t necessarily need a candle.
