Gümüşten Suretler (Faces from Silver) takes its name from the silver plates of daguerrotypes, forerunner of photography. The summer show of early photographs from the Ömer M Koç Collection at Istanbul’s Sadberk Hanım Museum focused on photography’s impact on portrait and landscape art in 1843–60.
“Snappers” were then painters first, and their attention to colour and composition showed.
