- What’s On
Featuring works that the artists Antonio Cosentino, Manaf Halbouni, Hiwa K and Zeynep Kayan produced in Germany, this exhibition reflects the spirit of the exile. The title is a nod to the Spanish author Juan Goytisolo, whose compilation share the same name, and to Tezer Özlü, the Turkish author who meditated on leaving.
As Özlü put it, ‘“I generally think of myself as an exile everywhere on the earth, and nowhere a migrant. What I write is not part of the migrant literature. And, concretely speaking, not of an exile literature either. Me, I am bitterly exiling myself at each and every moment.’
Zeynep Kayan present performative images that contemplate movement between spaces. Manaf Halbouni dwells on the uprooted, and the consequences of the Syrian War and its exiles in Germany. Hiwa K draws on his own migration through Iraq and Germany to create poetic video pieces, while Antonio Cosentino’s works contemplate walls and divisions.
