Designed by Theophil von Hansen, who was responsible for the neoclassical Academy of Sciences in Athens, Vienna’s military museum was built in the 19th century as part of the existing Arsenal. Exhibits in its four major halls include the vehicle in which Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in Sarajevo, precipitating the First World War. The bloody bullet hole can be seen in his Ottoman tent and banner, captured in the 1683 Battle of Vienna.
