The Balık Pazar’s (in the backstreets opposite the Galatasaray Lycée) venerable fish restaurant is a pleasant lunch spot by day and a lively meyhane by night.
The restaurant also owns a very good fish shop on nearby Duduodaları Sokak, which sells sun-dried çiroz (mackerel), grey mullet roe from Adana and a particularly tough, smelly, smoked and dried salmon – only for the brave.
