Karaköy Meydanı Aksu İş Hanı No. 4, Karaköy, Istanbul

A good butcher’s shop in Karaköy Square, but the real attraction is the two important works of art from the 1960s by Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, the daddy of contemporary mosaics. Outside, above the shop’s name, is a ceramic frieze, with its repetitive shapes and spots of bright colours. Inside, is a stunning gold mosaic, entitled ‘Kağnı’ (‘The Ox Cart’), dating from 1965.
