British Consulate-General Istanbul (Pera House)

Mesrutiyet Caddesi No. 34, Tepebaşı – Beyoğlu, Istanbul

Occasionally open for lectures.

Pera House in Tepebaşı, Stratford Canning’s British Embassy, is pure Pall Mall. Although the Scottish architect William James Smith is credited as having built it, Charles Barry – better known for his Palace of Westminster – is also said to have had a hand. The choice of location is strange – a garden overlooking the once smelly Golden
Horn, rather than the breezy Bosphorus.

These days, it still acts at the British Consulate and sometimes as a venue for concerts, lectures and other events.
