Yavuz Selim Camii

Balat Mh., 34083 Fatih, Istanbul, Turkey

A steep climb up above the Patriarchate, but goodness it is worth the effort!

Built in 1522 by Süleyman the Magnificent in memory of his father, Selim I, who added the Arab world to the Ottoman Empire. Istanbul’s most impressive pre-Sinan Mosque with a spectacular view over the Golden Horn. It was here that Abdülhamid II chose to be buried.
