Stop to admire this pretty synagogue on the way to the main strip of action on Köybaşı Caddesi. The synagogue was allegedly built by Abraham Salomon Camondo, from the wealthy Jewish family who amassed their fortune in Turkey in the late 19th century. In modern times, it has been revived by the renewed presence of Jews who moved into the area, however, today only Shabbat prayers are held there.
Patricia Daunt tells of the Camondo family’s Paris home, which has been turned into a museum, in ‘Treasures of a Lost Dynasty’ in Cornucopia 26.
