“I’m Shocked But I’m Not Surprised” - Ekin Saçlıoğlu at X-ist

Coelacanth (To Be Assumed Nonexistent for 65 Million Years), latex on canvas, 130 x 130 cm, 2011

(Ekin Saçlıoğlu, Coelocanth (To Be Assumed Nonexistent For 65 Million Years), 2011) Until 19 March, X-ist will be showing works by new Turkish artist Ekin Saçlıoğlu. Bright, visually arresting compositions are the order of the day here, but the paintings are not terribly exciting. Extremely decorative and eye-catching, but they just don't seem to do much. Clever titles and pretty pictures just don't cut it when the boundaries of art are being pushed back elsewhere. However, others might disagree - every piece was sold by the opening night. Why not pop over to Nişantaşı and decide for yourself? Abdi İpekçi Caddesi, Kaşıkçıoğlu Apt. No.42 D.2, Nişantaşı, Istanbul
