Dökümcüler Han

Dating from the late Byzantine period, this building in Beyoğlu was once the equivalent of a shopping mall filled with artisan and trader’s workshops and retailers. Today, it is home to a brass and iron foundry. The upper floors have been abandoned and the view of Sultanahmet and the hills of Galata is spectacular.

Owen Matthews’ article ‘Secrets of Beyoğlu’ in ‘The European City’ in Cornucopia 51 profiles the neighbourhood’s most colourful characters.
