Istanbul Music Festival Highlights 2025

By John Shakespeare Dyson | June 9, 2025

This year’s İKSV Istanbul Music Festival, the 53rd in the series, is scheduled to run from June 11 to 26. Organised by the  Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İstanbul Kültür Sanat Vakfı or ‘İKSV’) and centred around the theme of ‘Beyond Borders’, the 25 concerts feature more than 45 ensembles and soloists including the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester, Camerata Salzburg, Geneva Camerata, the Bulgarian National Philharmonic Choir, the Slovak Philharmonic Choir, pianists Hélène Grimaud, Frank Peter Zimmermann, Rafał Blechacz, Alexandre Kandorow and Alexey Botvinov, the violinist Veriko Tchumburidze, viola-player Anastasia Kobekina; cellists Gautier Capuçon and Anastasia Kobekina; and a large number of vocalists and players of traditional instruments. The Festival’s main sponsor is Borusan Holding.

Venues include the Palais de France, the Sakıp Sabancı Museum, the Greek Monastery on Kınalıada (one of the Princes’ Islands), three churches in Büyükdere, the Grand Tarabya Hotel and the Yıldız and Yoğurtçu Parks, as well as more conventional halls such as the Atatürk Cultural Centre, the Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall, the Süreyya Opera House and the Zorlu Center. One special feature of this festival is the inclusion in some of the musical events of an element of dance, painting or theatre. In addition, newly-commissioned works by the contemporary composers Valentin Silvestrov (Ukraine) and Hasan Uçarsu (Turkey) will receive their premieres. As is customary, there are special projects supporting woman musicians, and children’s workshops and family concerts will be held at various locations in Istanbul.
